Obituary for ETV2(SS) Chima Archibald "Chimes the Goombay Boy" Amara

ETV2(SS) Chima Archibald "Chimes the Goombay Boy" Amara
CHIMA ARCHIBALD AMARA
January 15, 1991-July 09, 2019

Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone on January 15, 1991 to the late Captain Archie Amara of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority and Margaret Amara of Bronx New York, Chima Archibald Amara was the younger of two children.

In the summer of 1992 Chima relocated with his mom who was going to purse studies in the United Kingdom. He started his nursery education at Ferry Lane Elementary School, Tottenham in North London. Upon completing her course, Chima returned Home to Sierra Leone to join his Dad. In Sierra Leone, he attended the Murrydeen Preparatory school in Aberdeen Road until he had to flee again to another West African country, The Gambia as a result of a civil war in Sierra Leone. Chima stayed in the Gambia for a year before relocating to the United States with his Mom and Sister Fionia in 1999.

Upon arrival in the United States he fell in love with his new adaptive country. He enrolled in elementary schools in the United States. He attended MS113 Junior High School in Bronx, New York, graduating in 2004.

Chima was destined for a life of service; his choice of High School was the ROTC Bronx Aerospace Academy School. He wore the uniform of the United States Air force proudly, took part in every activity in school, Color Guard, Parades, Debating Society, Sports and was loved by pupils and staff.
During his final year in school he made contact with the United States Navy, expressing his desire to join the team. He then promised that once he graduated from university he will join the Navy.

He attended CUNY Hunter College in New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in January 2015. In keeping to his promise to the US Navy, Chima enlisted in the Navy with a deferral date of October 6th 2015. He proudly went into Naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut in December 2015, spending a year there before being shipped to Guam, his new base to join his Ship USS Chicago.

Chima later relocated with the USS Chicago to Hawaii where he served faithfully until that fateful day of July 9th 2019. He loved his job, he was always in high spirit, loved his shipmates and was looking forward to returning to civil life where he would be able to serve his country with his experiences and education in a different role.

Chima was a caring son, a great brother, a good communicator, very jovial, high spirited, respectful guy.
